Crafted from the heartwood of Vijaysar (Pterocarpus marsupium), our Vijaysar Heartwood Moisture Glass brings an age-old Indian timber tradition into a refined everyday ritual. Vijaysar, traditionally known as Bijaka, Asana and Vijayasara, has an important place in Ayurvedic literature. Its heartwood has traditionally been valued for its tikta (bitter) and kashaya (astringent) character and has been described in classical Ayurvedic texts in relation to Prameha and other conditions. The natural heartwood is carefully shaped into a drinking vessel designed to hold water for a period of time. Traditionally, water is kept in a Vijaysar wooden vessel and consumed afterward. As water comes into contact with the natural heartwood, it may develop a subtle natural colour and character. This traditional practice is particularly associated with Vijaysar’s longstanding Ayurvedic use. The Beauty of Vijaysar Heartwood Vijaysar heartwood is naturally dense and rich in characteristic wood compounds. Its deep reddish-brown to dark brown appearance gives every glass an earthy, elegant character. Each vessel is naturally individual, with subtle variations in grain, colour, texture and tonal depth. It is a piece of Indian timber heritage shaped for a mindful daily ritual. ⸻ Ayurvedic Heritage A Wood Mentioned in the Ayurvedic Tradition Classical Ayurvedic literature describes Vijaysar/Bijaka among medicinally valued plants. A traditional verse attributed to the Ayurvedic description of Bijaka states: बीजकः कुष्ठवीसर्पश्वित्रमेहगुदक्रिमीन् । हन्ति श्लेष्मास्रपित्तञ्च त्वच्यः केश्यो रसायनः ॥ The traditional description associates Bijaka with Prameha and several other conditions and describes it in the context of balancing certain doshas and supporting traditional Ayurvedic uses.
